Disaster Restoration Case Studies: Storm Damage and Roof Replacement in East Hartford, CT

This resident of East Hartford had a very old roof that was extremely brittle, worn down, and deteriorated. Strong winds were tearing off shingles left and right. It didn’t take an expert to see that this roof needed replacing.

Built Right not only installed them a much needed new roof but offered a solution that would save them a ton of money. The team contacted the home owner’s insurance company and got them to pay for the damages caused by strong winds. Despite the roof being very old and damaged, we got the insurance company to pay for a full roof replacement. Once that was settled, Built Right started building the new roof. We started by stripping the roof of the three layers of old shingles it had on it. We inspected the plywood to make sure it wasn’t damaged and installed felt paper underlayment over the entire roof to protect it against leakage. In addition, we installed 3ft of ice and water guard to prevent future ice dams, a drip edge guard so water would drain to the gutters, a ridge vent to ventilate the roof and attic, and galvanized chimney flashing to prevent leakage in that area. At the end of it all, the homeowner got a brand new roof with old English pewter Tamko shingles.  We even replaced the roof on the garage too! They love it!
